A state police sergeant charged in a suspected DUI accident that sent a mother and her daughter to the hospital will avoid jail time after reaching a plea bargain with prosecutors Thursday.
Police say John McDonald had left a retirement party for a colleague in 2019 when he blew past a stop sign and crashed into the other car.
At the time of the incident, police say McDonald's blood alcohol content was not checked because he was injured and taken to the hospital.
Under the deal, McDonald will enter the state's alcohol education program - which could result in the charge being erased.
A civil suit is still pending.
