A state representative from Fairfield is advocating for moms all over Connecticut.
State Rep. Jennifer Leeper has been working on legislation, that will include lactation consultants to be eligible with Medicaid.
She was at the Milk Street Lactation Support Center to bring awareness to the topic.
The legislation will help low-income mothers with clinical breastfeeding resources.
"This is essential because we know that breastfeeding is directly tied to both higher outcome maternal health for women and for babies, but it is not easy," Leeper says.
She says the legislation made it through the House, but it was rejected by the Senate. She says she will work with the Public Health Committee to try again this year.
