State Sen. Dennis Bradley is asking for the public lend help to a disabled Bridgeport woman and her four kids, who he says will be homeless on Tuesday.
Laura Romaine says she is being evicted because her landlord applied for an eviction order before the pandemic began. This means she doesn't qualify for protections under the moratorium on residential evictions.
Bradley says with the clock ticking and a long waiting list for shelters, Romaine's only hope will be to get help from the public.
"Laura is in this very dire situation," he says. "It's time that we as Bridgeporters come together and wrap our arms around her and make sure we don't see her and her four children and granddaughter out in the cold during this pandemic."
Romaine says, "As of Tuesday, my children and I and my granddaughter will physically be in the street exposed to this pandemic, the winter storm, the snow. We have nowhere to go."
A GoFundMe was set up for the mother to help raise funds.
