The state trooper facing manslaughter charges in connection to the 2020 fatal shooting of a teen in West Haven has rejected a plea deal, according to published reports.
Authorities say state Trooper Brian North shot 19-year-old Mubarak Soulemane after the teen carjacked a vehicle in Norwalk and led police on a chase on I-95. The chase ended in West Haven when officers boxed in Soulemane. That's when authorities say Soulemane pulled out a knife and was shot by North.
Published reports say the trooper was offered a plea deal that could have resulted in up to 10 years in prison - but his attorney rejected that offer.
The trial would likely start in January unless a deal is reached before next year.
