Crews are readying the state Armory in Hartford for Wednesday’s inauguration of Gov.-elect Ned Lamont.
After being sworn in around 12:30 p.m. as the state’s 89th governor, a brief ceremony will take place inside the Armory.
That will be followed by a 19-gun salute and an inaugural parade. At around 2:30 p.m., Lamont will deliver his first State of the State address to a joint session of the Legislature.
The day’s events will be covered closely by News 12 Connecticut.
News 12 spoke with Sacred Heart University political analyst Gary Rose who says to expect an agenda with a liberal leaning.
"Among Democrats, I think there's going to be a great deal of enthusiasm. I wouldn't at all be surprised, though, when all is said and done…that you're going to hear a lot of grumbling among the Republicans here in the state," says Rose.
Lamont is expected to talk about highway tolls, a higher minimum wage and perhaps even legalizing recreational marijuana.
One of the biggest issues for voters, however, is new jobs.
"He's going to talk about jobs, but the question is, how's he going to create those?  I think that's another matter,” says Rose.
Three ex-governors will be in attendance: Dannel Malloy, Jodi Rell and Lowell Weicker.
Malloy wrote a letter to the people of Connecticut Tuesday saying: "We all want good schools, safe and healthy communities, well paved roads, beautiful parks, a clean environment, and basic services for those in need. We all agree Connecticut should continue to make wise and responsible decisions in developing its budgets, particularly when it comes to paying down the debts of past generations. All of these things come at a cost to you, the taxpayer; it's a balance we strike."
