Day of Champions: Hundreds help raise funds for camp for grieving kids

Over 400 people spent their Sunday morning at the Westport YMCA to raise awareness and funds for national camps that benefit grieving children.
At the Day of Champions, 20 teams got the opportunity to compete in fun outdoor activities to benefit the Experience Camps - programs for children who have experienced loss of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver.
"My mom wanted to come raise money for experience camps because when I was 6 years old, my dad died and it was very hard for me," says Lola Warrick. "So she wanted me to go somewhere where I could grieve."
There will be Experience Camps at five locations across the country this summer, benefiting a total of 700 children.
The money raised by the participants of the Day of Champions will allow children to attend the camps for free and keep new programs coming into the camps.
Each team was asked to raise a minimum of $1,000. As of Sunday, they raised over $180,000 in total.
