The Fairfield community is mourning a man who was killed by a fallen tree during Sunday's storm.
David Schmerzler was driving north near the Fairfield-Westport town line when a large limb from a sassafras tree
fell on the driver's side, striking him. Schmerzler's wife and daughter were in the car at the time.
After the anguished call to 911, Schmerzler was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.
People who live in the neighborhood say they are in shock.
"You always worry about airplane accidents, auto accidents, but this is just nature," says Denise Brower. "It is horrible."
The family is asking for privacy at this time.
