State estimates shoppers will save $4.9M during Tax Free Week

Tax Free Week begins Sunday in Connecticut, and the state estimates shoppers will benefit from around $4.9 million in savings.
The week eliminates the 6.35% sales tax on clothing and shoes less than $100. It falls during the back-to-school shopping season.
The National Retail Federation estimates parents and students will spend over $80 billion on back to school items this year and expects record-setting back-to-school spending this year.
It predicts elementary through high school students will spend close to $700 on the new school year, and that money will go mostly towards clothes and accessories.
College students will spend closer to $1,000, with the majority of that money going toward electronics.
