A Norwalk day care is closing its doors for good, and parents say they had no time to prepare for the closure.
Parents with kids at Children's Corner Learning Center on Connecticut Avenue say they received a letter Wednesday notifying them Sept. 30 will be the center's last day of operation.
For seven years, the day care provided a place for parents to get care for their kids. But now, those parents are struggling to find new options.
The closing means 30 staff members will lose their jobs and 80 children will have to find a new place to go. Just two years ago, the company's Stamford location was closed. The Norwalk location is its last one in Connecticut.
Parent Megan Young says when she had kids that went to the now-closed Stamford location, a similar problem happened. "I think we found out the Friday before Thanksgiving that they were closing on the 30th of November," she says.
Parents say the corporate headquarters for the company in Westchester is offering no explanation as to why it's closing.
"Yes, they're giving us four weeks, but most places are going to be full and it's really going to be hard to find care for my 1-year-old," said parent Kristen Penta.
Young says she finds that a lot of day cares in the area work on a school calendar, which means their fall enrollments may already be full.
Another parent told News 12 that other day cares she checked have a 6-month waiting list and she has no other option for her son.
News 12 Connecticut reached out to the corporate office for a comment and further explanation but has not heard back.
