In their contentious divorce filings, Jennifer Dulos, a missing mother of five from New Canaan, alleged emotional abuse by her then husband Fotis Dulos.
Suzanne Adam, of the Domestic Violence Crisis Center in Stamford, says the Jennifer Dulos disappearance is a very serious case of domestic violence.
"We are grateful that the police and community partners in New Canaan have been able to support the individuals impacted by this tragic loss," says Adam.
The court filings in the two-yearlong divorce proceedings of Fotis and Jennifer Dulos detailed violence and threats to kidnap their five children. Adam says it’s important to remember verbal, financial and emotional violence when discussing domestic violence.
A recent survey by the Washington Post found nearly half of the women murdered in the previous decade were killed by former intimate partners.
In a show of support against domestic violence, state police say they wore purple ribbons Tuesday at the Fotis Dulos arrest announcement and had female officers escort Fotis Dulos at Troop G in Bridgeport.
