A professional basketball player and graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Trumbull is stuck in Santiago, Chile due to coronavirus pandemic.
Timajh Parker-Rivera, 25, is a power forward in the International Basketball Federation and recently became a top pick in The Baloncesto Superior Nacional league out of Puerto Rico.
Diedra Perry, his mother, says when her son tried to board a plane, he was told he couldn't leave the country because his visa had expired, causing him to incur a fine.
"I see it's all about money. Let's pay the money, let's get it moving,” she told News 12. “For him to be in this crisis and I really can't do much, it's just ripping my heart apart."
Officials at the U.S. Embassy in Chile say because of the coronavirus outbreak, getting what should be a simple matter resolved is now very problematic. Sen. Richard Blumenthal is working with the State Department to try and get Parker-Rivera back home to Connecticut.
