Fotis Dulos' estate ordered to pay mother-in-law $1.9M
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — The estate of Fotis Dulos, the Connecticut man who killed himself in January after being charged in the murder of his estranged wife, and his home construction company must pay $1.9 million to his wife's mother to settle up unpaid loans, a state judge ruled Monday.
Dulos and his Fore Group company took business loans from his father-in-law, Hilliard Farber, beginning more than a decade ago and owed $1.9 million, including interest, at the time of Farber's death in 2017, according to court records.
Judge Cesar Noble in Hartford wrote in his decision that he rejected much of Dulos' testimony, including claims that Farber forgave the loans, and determined that Dulos fabricated checks presented as evidence to the court. The ruling means the money is owed to Farber's widow, Gloria Farber.
Dulos' estranged wife, Jennifer Dulos, went missing on May 24, 2019, after dropping their five children at school. Police accused Fotis Dulos of killing Jennifer Dulos in her New Canaan home and driving off with her body, which still hasn't been found. The children are living with Gloria Farber, their grandmother, in New York City.
Fotis Dulos killed himself in January while facing potential revocation of his bail. He denied any role in Jennifer Dulos' disappearance.
Fotis Dulos' estate may not be able to pay the $1.9 million. He had debt totaling $7 million, according to an arrest warrant in the murder case.
Christopher Hug, a lawyer and temporary administrator for Fotis Dulos' estate, declined to comment on the judge's ruling. He said total assets and liabilities for the estate have not been finalized. Dulos and the Fore Group owned several properties under development that had debts due, he said.
A probate court hearing on administrative matters involving Fotis Dulos' estate is scheduled for Wednesday.
Two other people are awaiting trial on allegations that they helped cover up the killing — Michelle Troconis, a former girlfriend of Fotis Dulos, and Kent Mawhinney, a friend of Fotis Dulos and his former lawyer. Each has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit murder.
