Protesters in Waterbury knocked off the head of a Christopher Columbus statue outside of city hall.
Mayor Neil O'Leary says he was "deeply disappointed and disturbed by the destruction."
"The city of Waterbury, and I as mayor, are deeply committed to taking action to address the impact and inequities caused by systemic racism. However, this type of behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
Earlier in the week, there was a standoff at the site of the statue between those who support it and Black Lives Matter protesters.
