Police in Ansonia say a 20-year-old woman who died after being found at an intersection for a report of a hit-and-run was stabbed and not struck by a car, as first reported.
The incident happened Sunday in the area of Coe and North Coe lanes around 4:50 p.m.
The Derby Police Department notified the Ansonia Police Department of an evading motor vehicle accident involving a pedestrian but when officers arrived on scene, they found 20-year-old Rosali Violet Acquefreda suffering from upper body injuries that were not consistent with a motor vehicle accident but rather a stabbing.
Acquefreda was transported to Griffin Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police say the initial report of a hit-and-run crash came from a vehicle witnesses saw leaving the scene.
Acquefreda's family says that police should be looking at the father of her 3-year-old child. Her father says they were about to move into a new house in Shelton.
The Ansonia Police Department says it is currently working with the State of Connecticut Office of the Chief Medical examiner to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
The Acquefreda family says they can never replace what they've lost.
