Debra Gampel, 68, who received a kidney transplant during the pandemic, urgently needs another after her first transplant failed.
A rare protein disorder previously destroyed her kidneys, prompting her initial transplant journey.
Remaining ever optimistic despite her medical challenges, Gampel said, "We're born with two kidneys, and I hope someone realizes they can save a life with their spare." Her story was first highlighted on News 12 Connecticut in 2020, leading to her initial transplant.
Jen Benson, a double-organ transplant survivor and founder of Transplant Journey Inc., is now rallying support for Gampel. "This story spoke to me because of Deb's need for a second kidney transplant," shared Benson, urging the community to spread Gampel's story.
Despite facing health challenges, including recent vision loss, Gampel remains focused on gratitude and helping others.
