The man known as "the People's Priest" was posthumously honored with a street bearing his name.
Now, 182nd Street at Groat Street will be known as John C. Flynn Way, named for Father Flynn of the Saint Martin De Torres Catholic Church, who died in 2012.
John C. Flynn Way is located right across from the church where he served for more than 50 years.
The renaming ceremony was an emotional gathering for the church community. It was the culmination of a long process that involved obtaining signatures and introducing legislation to City Council before it was signed into law by Mayor Bill de Blasio.
