All 430 students at Longfellow School in Bridgeport received backpacks filled with school supplies from Goodwill Industries of Western Connecticut on their first week back from vacation.
Principal James Adams says he hopes the gift will further inspire the students to achieve. He says he's very proud of how well this school, in one of the poorest areas, did last year on standardized tests.
Goodwill also gave backpacks at two others schools, one in Hartford and one in Danbury. A spokesperson says they chose the schools based on need and proximity to Goodwill locations.
