The SUNY Maritime Privateers are ready to play their homecoming game against Morrisville State College on Saturday.
The Privateers, with a record of 2-2 this season, will have some special guests in the stands as they play the game. An astronaut, Captain Scott Kelly of Maritime?s class of 1987, will join the team for the coin toss. Captain Kelly was the commander of a recent space shuttle flight.
Clayton Kendrick Holmes, head coach of the Privateers, says that although the team has lost their last two games, he is confident. ?I feel good about where we?re at,? Holmes says. He says that the team is young, and they let their mistakes and fumbles catch up to them, which contributed to their two losses.
?We?re another week older this week, and another week under our belt of practice,? Holmes says. There are no freshmen on the team this year, so even the youngest players have been there for at least one season.
