Teenage girl seriously injured in Merritt Parkway moped crash

Police say a 17-year-old New Haven girl was seriously injured Monday in a moped crash on the Merritt Parkway.

They say the rear passenger of the moped was ejected from the bike when the operator slowed down before Exit 13, tried to merge and then lost control.

The passenger was taken to Norwalk Hospital for life threatening injuries and then later taken to Yale New Haven Hospital for a higher level of care.

Route 15 south was closed for more than three hours while the collision team conducted an investigation.
