There is something about the smell and the sound of the sea. Beach days are a staple of summer but if you want the wind in your hair and sand between your toes, you will likely need to keep a hand on your wallet.
According to the chief retail analyst at Circana, there are expenses that often come with your beach trip.
“You want to get a park pass, that is fifty to sixty dollars for the season, and you'll need to show proof of residence,” said Marshal Cohen. “Many day passes are available also, and those run at about 20 to $40 a day pass.”
Cohen says parking is often included with those passes, but in some instances, they may charge you up to $25 a car.
Once you make it past the parking lot, it is time to set up. According to Cohen, a good beach chair meant to last multiple seasons will run you about $45, towels can cost up to $25 and a quality umbrella is coming in at around $30. It is a lot to bring and a lot to carry.
“Want to load all your accessories in and drag the wagon across the sand with those big beach wheels? Those run from $179 all the way up to $1,000,” said Cohen.
Even when you are set up, you are not quite ready to dive in. Skin protection is priceless, but Cohen says the lotion we use for it often comes in around $10 a tube.
All your tanning, swimming and castle building will no doubt work up an appetite. Cohen cautions concessions are costing more this year.
“The average meal per person runs at about $15 and that does not include the ice cream that those kids usually want to add on.”
If you are looking to cool down the spending, seniors and veterans may be in luck with different deals and discounts offered by the state and local municipalities.
