A local car salesman and tow-truck operator is charged with illegally removing nearly a dozen cars from several Stratford parking lots.

Police say Stephen Verity of Steve's Automotive in Milford took it upon himself to tow 10 cars that were allegedly parked illegally at the Dock Shopping Center and Sherwood Apartments.

State law requires the owner of the parking lot to give permission before any cars are towed.

Those who believe their cars have been illegally towed are encouraged to call the Stratford Police Department.
