Tropical Depression Debby is now making the transition to extra-tropical, now that the storm is firmly back on land.
It will no longer strengthen, it's losing it's tropical characteristics, but that doesn't mean we won't feel some strong impacts in Western Connecticut Friday.
The remnant moisture is surging northward and will take a path west and around us.
This path puts us on the side that will see less rain, but unfortunately a greater chance of some severe weather.
Tropical systems like these as they move north have a lot of low level wind shear and this will help enhance thunderstorms and quick spin up tornadoes.
While this risk is higher just west of us on Friday, it's still not zero over Western Connecticut.
Damaging winds are the main threat with an isolated tornado in our area.
The system as a whole is also trending faster, which means that it will completely be out of here before the weekend officially starts. There is a chance of some flash flooding, but with the faster movement and western track, that gives us a shorter window of that heavy rain. Watch for nuisance flooding on the roads and even in basements.
Do what you can to prepare now.
Secure loose objects around your home or take in valuables.
Have a way to get weather warnings quickly and make sure all your devices are fully charged, just in case the power goes out.
