Six people have been hospitalized, and Metro-North trains on the Waterbury branch were suspended after a train crashed into a dump truck in Milford Wednesday.
The accident occurred just off Naugatuck Avenue where the tracks for the Waterbury branch split from the main New Haven line. Officials say there were more than 50 people on the Waterbury-bound train when it crashed into the dump truck around 3 p.m.
Officials say the truck was pulling out of Associated Carting when it was hit. They say it is unclear how fast the train was going. Associated Carting officials say the dump truck driver did not see or hear the train coming. The driver says he did not hear a horn coming from the train, though MTA officials say the engineer is required to blow the horn when passing through a crossing.
Emergency officials say the hospitalized individuals, which include an infant, are expected to be OK.
