A more than 20-year battle to ban trucks on an area roadway ended Monday.
The state Traffic Commission approved the application for a "no thru trucks" zone for part of Route 136. The ban applies to Route 136 from Woodward Avenue in Rowayton to the I-95 on-ramp on Tokeneke Road in Darien.
Neighbors and area leaders say they are pleased with the decision. They argued that trucks were using the mainly residential, two-lane road as a cut-through to get to and from I-95. They say it wasn't safe and pointed to numerous accidents as evidence.
The ban will take effect as soon as Darien and Norwalk can get the signs up and start enforcing it.
