Thirty veterans and first responders kayaked 22 miles from Bridgeport, to Port Jefferson on Long Island Friday morning, to raise awareness about Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and veteran suicides.

Organizers call this event the 22 PTSD Awareness Challenge.
They say that number is significant as it represents the number of veterans who take their own lives every day.

"The number (22) is unacceptable, and I'll continue to do this until it’s zero and we have to keep the awareness in the forefront,” said Tom Gross, a veteran who has participated since 2017.
