A volunteer firefighter and her family have been displaced by a weekend fire at their home in Orange.
Firefighters responded Sunday evening to the fire on East Slope Drive in Orange -- the home of one of their own.
Lisa Kaplan is a volunteer firefighter for the department. She, her husband Paul and their dog Teddy were away for the weekend but raced home when she saw her address on her pager.
The fire started on the bottom floor.
"There was an appliance where we did some research and determined that has been recalled so we're leaving that to insurance investigators," said Fire Marshal James Vincent.
Kaplan is reminding people to check the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
"They have a list of all the products that are presently on recall, so this doesn't happen to anybody else," she said.
The Kaplans are expected to be displaced from their home for at least a year. They say they are lucky to have insurance that will help to restore their home and are grateful for the outpouring of support from the community.
Donations can be done in person or via Venmo @OrangeFD with a memo that says Kaplan Donation.
