Officials say Saturday night's storm took down a tree and knocked out power for 30 families in Redding around 1:30 a.m.
A 2-mile stretch of Black Rock Turnpike had to be closed down for part of the night because of the downed power line.
The storm also sent a tree smashing into a car outside of a resident's house.
"We heard a great big boom," said Fairfield resident, Harvey Hartin. "My granddaughter, she looked out the window, and a tree had just been knocked down."
Hartin said his home wasn't damaged and no one was hurt.
