While testifying in front of Congress for potential misuse of welfare funds, Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre revealed he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
The neurological disorder affects millions of people, causing imbalance, walking problems, tremors and a host of other symptoms.
Hartford Healthcare neurologist Dr. Leon Meytin says celebrities like Michael J Fox and athletes like Muhammad Ali have helped raise awareness for the disease, and early detection of symptoms is key in treating the disease.
"If you have any symptom you suspect as Parkinson's disease, we have centers across the state of Connecticut as part of our Chase family Movement Disorder Center," Dr. Meytin says. "We're readily easily accessible."
Currently, there is no cure for Parkinson's, but doctors say there are many more treatment options these days.
Chase Family Movement Disorders Center has offices in Bridgeport, Torrington, Cheshire and more. For locations and more information visit here: www.apdaparkinson.org.
