Westchester County has joined with Mount Vernon to help restore Memorial Field.
The project has been 10 years in the making and has been delayed several times.
The $28 million project is set to give the park a much-needed facelift, including renovating the grandstand and adding multiple sports fields.
"To do something that we promised we would do four years ago, which would be to take what was once a proud arena, Memorial Field, where there was football games and concerts and track events, and return it back to reusable status," said Latimer.
Latimer says they hope to complete construction and reopen around spring of next year.
