Organizers of the Weston food pantry worried they would outgrow their current storage space until the police union stepped in with a new home.

The Weston Food Pantry was located at the Norfield Congregational Church for about 20 years, but as demand has grown it has needed more room for its goods. Betsey Perigne and Terri Gaberman say the households they serve doubled to 90 over the last year, necessitating a bigger space.

The Weston Police Union raised $4,500 to purchase a portable building to house 8,000 pounds of food. The building is undergoing a major transformation to make sure it meets all state and local health codes for storing food and that its electricity is up to code.

The Weston food pantry still needs to raise $4,000 for electrical equipment and more installations.
