A solemn ceremony was held in Westport Wednesday evening to honor firefighters who have died.
Firefighters gathered outside Kings Highway Elementary School and followed the bagpipes to the Church of the Assumption.
The companies represented included communities from Westport, Stratford and Shelton.
This ceremony, which was organized by the Bridgeport Area Retired Firefighters, has been a tradition for nearly four decades and honors both members who died in recent memory and long ago.
"Many of our members that died in one incident on the Post Road right up the street in the 40s, I don't think there are too many family members around from them but definitely the family is always invited and we still remember the Aksoys every chance we get," said Lt. Dan Ambruso.
