A Westport man was arrested after police say he barged into the Democratic Town Committee headquarters in Fairfield and began shouting at volunteers and campaign workers.
Michael Silverstein, 61, was arrested with breach of peace following the confrontation.
Police say Silverstein was driving along the Post Road in Fairfield when he pulled into the parking lot, went up to the door and started yelling insults and profanities at the volunteers.
Police say Silverstein walked inside the headquarters and shouted that he was sick and tired of Trump supporters being attacked across the country.
One of the volunteers asked if they could help him, but police say Silverstein continued to bombard them with insults and profanities in a threatening manner for several minutes.
Police say one of the volunteers took out her cellphone to record the incident, and Silverstein knocked the phone out of her hand.
Police say Silverstein left, but continued to yell on the way back to his car.
The volunteers called police and gave them Silverstein's license plate.
Police say they found him at his home in Westport, and he admitted that he was involved in some type of altercation at the DTC and police arrested him for breach of peace.
Silverstein was issued a misdemeanor summons and will appear in court in November.
Both Democrat and Republican parties in town issued a joint statement denouncing the incident.
Police say they have increased patrols around the Democratic Town Committee headquarters in Fairfield.
