A Westport native has taken her game to new heights by winning a snowboarding event Thursday night in Boston.
Julia Marino, 18, is a 2018 Olympic hopeful and surprised her peers with her win at the World Cup Big Air competition. She had three perfect runs at Fenway Park on a jump three times higher than the field's famous Green Monster. Marino made it into the field when U.S. Olympian Ty Walker withdrew.
"We're proud of her and we all support her so much and we're so happy for her that she's doing what she loves full-time now," says Jenna Bike, Marino's friend and teammate.
Marino says her father used to live in Boston and still has many relatives there. She was also part of the Saint Joe's girls' soccer team that won the state title in 2013.
Next up for Marino is a snowboarding competition this weekend in Quebec.
