Westport police are alerting residents to an uptick in the number of coyotes seen in town.
Police say the rise in sightings is normal for this time of year, and are offering tips to keep the predators away.
First, they say residents must never feed the coyotes and keep should keep trash sealed.
Also be sure to keep pets inside or on a leash, especially for residents who live near woods.
Always have a noisemaker on hand and use it if a coyote is approaching.
