As the holiday shopping season picks up, small business owners across Connecticut are urging customers to shop locally instead of using online retailers.

Heida Thrun, the owner of Bel Mondo boutique in Westport, says every purchase made in-person helps keep local shops thriving by keeping dollars right here in the community.

Thrun, who runs the home decor and gift shop, hopes this season inspires shoppers to think about local first not only for the unique finds, but for the in-person experience that cannot be matched online.
