Westport is extending hours and waiving fees at its transfer station in an attempt to aid residents who have suffered damage due to the recent nor?easter. The transfer station will remain open until 3 p.m. The typical $30 fee will be waived for residents only through Saturday. Residents can drop off any items such as furniture or carpets that have been damaged or destroyed by the storm. Business owners and residents were affected as floodwaters rose and seeped into buildings and homes while the nor?easter raged. Westport sounded its emergency evacuation notice this past Sunday, and closed all beaches and some local roads as a result of the storm?s flooding.
