Easton police say pro-white nationalist flyers appeared at about a half dozen houses on streets off of Black Road Turnpike this week.

They did not contain specific threats, but read "#WHITELIVESMATTER."

Police say they are exploring potential vandalism charges for the perpetrators, but at the same time, whoever is responsible has a First Amendment right to free speech.

"This is something that could be borderline vandalism because you're throwing things into people's yards," says Timothy Shaw, Easton's chief of police.

Authorities say incidents of white supremacist flyers and threats against Jewish Community Centers and Muslim mosques have been on the rise in western Connecticut this year. Many of those flyers reference President Donald Trump or his "Make America Great Again" slogan.

Anyone who has information on the flyers is asked to call police.
