A Wilton mother and her three children gave health care workers a special thank you at Greenwich Hospital Monday.
Renee Rafferty has worked at Greenwich Hospital as a nurse for 18 years. She isn't on the front lines right now, but says her friends and peers are and that she wanted to say thank you.
Rafferty asked her children if they'd like to make cards for the health care heroes there. She says what happened far exceeded her expectations.
"'Let's ask your friends and some of your classmates and maybe some of the organizations we're involved in,' and then it grew from there," Rafferty says.
The Rafferty family delivered more than 300 handmade cards to the hospital. Colin, Keira and Gavin Rafferty say they hope the cards boost the hospital staff's morale and show those on the front lines how much they're appreciated.
"I hope it raises their morale," Colin says.
Some cards included heartfelt messages, while others had jokes to lighten the mood.
"They risk their lives for ours," says Keira. "Everyone is so grateful that they do that for us."
Greenwich Hospital's Director for Patient Experience Debi D'Alba met the Rafferty family outside the hospital to accept the delivery. She says the cards will be distributed to all the units so everybody gets a little bit of thanks.
"It just brings everybody together," says D'Alba.
