Wilton police are warning residents of an email phishing scam sending fake invoices to individuals and businesses with pending applications.
The invoices are accompanied by a letter saying payment is needed to process the application.
Police said perpetrators have collected accurate information on business owners and applicants to seem legitimate.
Town officials say they do not mail invoices for pending applications.
Police put out an example of a fake invoice that was received by a Wilton property owner.
Anyone who has received a suspicious letter is urged to contact Wilton police at 203-834-6260.
