Woodbridge fifth grader participates in First Selectman for the Day; issues bat awareness proclamation

Woodbridge officials welcomed fifth-grade student Violet Skuret to town hall this week, where she participated in First Selectman for the Day.
Officials say the goal is to engage younger residents in civic life, encourage leadership and highlight the importance of community involvement. They add that Violet was able to get a behind the scenes look at how town government works and make her own meaningful contributions.
Following a swearing-in ceremony, Violet toured town hall and met staff. She also visited the police department, the library and human services. Violet and First Selectman Mica Cardozo later held a working lunch.
She also issued an official proclamation, declaring April 17 as Bat Awareness Day. The date aligns International Bat Awareness Day.

The goal is for people to learn more about “the importance of bats in controlling tick, mosquito, and other
annoying bug populations, and to help protect bat habitats by building their own bat boxes.”
