Work is underway at a school in Westport to get rid of black mold before it spreads.
Portions of the gymnasium walls are being removed at Kings Highway Elementary School and sprayed with a sealant to stop mold from developing.
As a result of parents' concerns, the Kings Highway Maintenance Committee was recently formed by the town's first selectmen to conduct an ongoing air quality investigation. When mold was found in the gym walls, the committee ordered the remediation.
The head of the committee says that he is hopeful the school will be ready to open on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the committee will continue to monitor air quality.
