Parents of freshmen at the J.M. Wright Technical High School say projected budget cuts could close the school and keep their children from getting the education they need and deserve.
According to several parents, the recent economic crisis led Gov. M. Jodi Rell to request every state agency cut its budget by 10 percent, which would temporarily close Wright Tech for two to four years and eliminate their children?s opportunity of attending a technical high school. Parents say there are no other technical schools close to their homes.
?Cutting education, I think, is really cutting it low,? Mike LaMotta, a parent from Stamford, says. ?These kids are the future of this country. And if we cut their education now, where is the future of our country going to be??
No official decision to close Wright Tech has been made.
