This election was the first chance to vote for thousands of young people who made news by walking out of their classes to protest gun violence.

Students from around the nation who participated in March For Our Lives to honor the lives lost during the Parkland school shooting turned to the poll booths to cast their votes.

Local walkout organizer Emily Kesselman, now a college freshman, says she's seeing the impact of those marches. At her college, she was able to help 300 of her peers register to vote.

About 90,000 young voters are registered in Connecticut.

Wilton High School senior Grace Bracken says gun control is a big push to get young people out to vote.
