Connecticut state police are mourning the loss of one of their own after an off-duty trooper was killed over the weekend in a car crash.

Danielle Miller was a three-year veteran of Troop L in Litchfield and News 12 is told she was well-liked across the county by first responders.

The crash happened Saturday just before 9 p.m. on Route 69 near Tosun Road in Wolcott.

According to investigators, Miller was off-duty when her police cruiser collided head-on with a pick-up truck.

She was taken to the hospital, where she later died of her injuries.

Police say the driver of the pick-up was treated and released from the hospital for minor injuries.

He is cooperating with police.

Miller is being remembered for her energy and dedication to the job. Condolences have been pouring in all over social media.

Officer Kevin Wells, with the Fairfield Police K-9 Unit, posted a note on Instagram, in part reading, “Thank you for all your hard work and service. Sending prayers to your family."

Wilton Police's K-9 Unit posted, "Our thoughts and prayers are with Connecticut State Police and the family of Trooper Miller. I don't know her, never met her, but she is a sister."

News 12 also spoke with first responders in Litchfield County.

“She was very eager, she was very energetic, she was very dedicated to her job,” says John Pudlinkski. “I have been retired 20 years, no matter how far you are removed from service, they are still one of your family.”

State police have also extended their thoughts and prayers to Miller's family and friends during the difficult time.
