One person is dead after a car plunged into a frozen pond in Easton.
Police say the incident occurred at 200 Mile Common Road. However, they say since newly formed ice started to cover the area where the car submerged into the water, they believe the accident may have happened several hours before the car was discovered.
An ambulance transported the driver to the hospital, where the victim was pronounced dead on arrival. Easton Police Chief Jack Solomon says the car and the driver were 80 percent submerged in the water.
Divers from the Trumbull Center Rescue Team and the Long Hill Fire Department searched the water for anyone else that might have been trapped. The search determined there were no other victims.
Easton police say they?re investigating whether speed or the icy road played a factor in the accident.
