A two-car crash on the Merritt Parkway in Fairfield Tuesday afternoon left one person dead and another seriously injured.
The deadly accident just south of exit 44 halted traffic on the parkway for hours. The Fairfield Police Department says a Toyota Corolla on the northbound side crossed over the highway, went down an embankment, became airborne and landed on a Chevy Yukon that was in a southbound lane.
Police responded to the accident shortly after 2 p.m. They say the driver of the Corolla was found dead and the woman driving the Yukon was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extricated.
There is no word on when police will release the name of the victim.
