A 12-year-old dog was hit by a cyclist inside Prospect Park Tuesday morning.
According to the owner, they were using the crosswalk on Garfield Place when a cyclist hit the dog and didn't stop.
“I thought she was dead. It’s not good when she’s 12 years old to have an injury like this," said Stephen Fromhart, a Park Slope resident.
Their dog, Rizzo, was rushed to the emergency vet where they were told she will have to undergo surgery on her back hip.
According to city law, cyclists are obligated to obey all traffic laws even while in a bike lane.
This includes yielding for pedestrians, especially if they are in a crosswalk.
