Two hospital workers were killed in a wrong-way, head-on collision on I-91 in Massachusetts, police say.
Judith Keating, 65, and Michelle Swaller, 65, both of Milford, were killed in the crash Sunday just before 6 p.m.
Police say a Subaru driven by Wallace Sherman Jr., 78, of New York, was traveling north in the southbound lane on I-91 in Holyoke when his car crashed into a car carrying Keating and Swaller.
Both women were pronounced dead at the scene. Sherman was also killed in the crash.
A passenger in Sherman's car was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Christine Brown, who was friends with the two women, says they both worked at Bridgeport Hospital's Milford campus. She says Keating left Milford's campus in 1999 but Swaller worked there with her for 31 years.
Brown says Swaller always looked out for her family and friends. Brown and Swaller walked together every Wednesday and even went on vacation together to Sanibel Island in 2018.
She says the tightknit Milford Campus is sick from this loss.
Police say they are investigating what caused Sherman to drive the wrong way.
