The Stamford community came together Monday to honor victims who died on 9/11 -- which includes 10 residents of Stamford.

An indoor ceremony was held Monday night at Woodside Firehouse.

For the past decade, the firehouse has been a place where people remember the victims and visit its 9/11 memorial.

The memorial was built in 2011 as a part of a group effort by the members of Station 5. All materials and services used to build the memorial were donated.

The deputy fire chief at the time was a metal worker, which is what inspired the design. Firefighters drilled the holes of the monument by hand. Now that memorial is a gathering place.

"It's just a nice way to commemorate and remember and show you are vigilant, that never forget actually means something," says retired Stamford Fire Deputy Chief Tom Gloersen.
