Dozens of people gathered at the Temple Beth El in Stamford to stand in solidarity with family and friends in Israel.

The event was hosted by the United Jewish Federation of Greater Stamford, New Canaan, and Darien and UJA—JCC of Greenwich.

The federations told News12 they have set $1 million goals to raise money to help survivors and families of the victims.

Gov. Ned Lamont, Stamford Mayor Caroline Simmons, Sen. Richard Blumenthal and other local clergy joined to show support.

Organizers say they want their non-Jewish friends and neighbors to understand what this horrific time means for them.

"There are a lot of people in our local community who have kids serving in the army either as active duty or reservists, and we just need to be together as a United community, Diane Sloyer, CEO of the United Jewish Federation said. "We don't know what's going to happen in the next few days, and we anticipate the needs to grow, and we want Israel to know we will be here."

Organizers said people can help by donating to United Jewish Federation and UJA—JCC of Greenwich.
